Speed and lightness

Last week, Alain Thébault and his team welcomed Lars Abromeit, journalist at GEO Magazine, on board Hydroptere between Los Angeles and Catalina Islands. Author of a 10-page report about Alain, Hydroptere and their pioneering spirit *, our German friend discovered the joy of flying 3 meters above the surface of the water, just by lightly touching the surface. First night sailing session at 31 knots!
"During our sailing sessions, we had the opportunity to meet two whales and to be escorted by dolphins. Unfortunately, we also noticed the presence of many floating plastic waste, not only related to the tsunami" Alain Thébault.

It is with the support of two Californian companies, Finesse Solutions and Shasta Crystals, that Hydroptere sails again. Based in Los Angeles, her home port for two years, the sporting objective remains the record of the transpacific crossing, expected by spring. In parallel, Dassault Systèmes continues their studies on the successor of the Hydroptere. This 3D giant finances and implements these new developments on Catia V6, with the help of our Papés **. The objective is to design a prototype to overcome the sailing barrier of 80 knots (150km/h).

Eric Tabarly and Paul Ricard were the forerunners of boats that fly, giving birth to the first trimaran equipped with foils (Paul Ricard). Today Alain Thebault, young crew member aboard Penduick and Paul Ricard, at the time of the legendary sailor, is very concerned about the increasing pollution of the oceans, including the Pacific, where a layer of floating waste the size of Texas stagnates. Accompanied by Patricia Ricard, granddaughter of Paul Ricard, they pursue this adventure with the Hydroptere in order to protect the oceans. For the President of the Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute, "we must become lighter on the planet."
